A new holiday home on the amazing island of Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. The design challenge was to create something unique whilst still belonging to the Bahamas. The style is, therefore, a mix of Spanish monolithic architecture with the local Bahamian, sometimes colonial houses on the island. The architecture and engineering is also highly hurricane resistant, by necessity – the project is a replacement home following its, and almost the whole islands, destruction during hurricane Dorian in 2019.

The design is simple but elegant with a stripped back material palette. It is about celebrating the surrounding nature, the ocean and the views. It is a house that blurs the line between external and internal, providing a truly ‘holiday home’ feel with added luxury. Each bedroom has a private terrace with an external shower and the master bedroom has an ensuite with slices of views out provided by vertical glazing.

The eaves are exposed, meaning the amazing views are enhanced by dramatic, double height spaces. These spaces open out onto an amazing split level terrace that makes its way down the site to the swimming pool and sun deck.

The project is due to start in the summer of 2023 with completion set for early 2024.
