Stage 4 Detailed Design
Applied Studio were commissioned to re-design the public spaces of a well-known hotel in central London. The building itself is a listed heritage asset which is in contrast to the contemporary brand of the hotel and its F+B space. Our design celebrates this contrast and explores the power of “contrast” throughout. Old meets new, glossy meets natural, rough meets smooth - it is these juxtaposed moments where the design is at its most beautiful.
It is an exploration of the “faded” history of the building and its journey to becoming a contemporary, sophisticated hotel. We have crafted the guest experience to explore this “faded” history through a journey where the design of the various spaces adapts to the use and the unique features of that space. The journey culminates in the restaurant space - a bright and bold celebration of the building, its location and the brand. It is a fitting end for a beautiful journey through a wonderful building.
There is an eclectic curation of materials, colours, furniture and furnishings that at once present a beautiful, sophisticated space but at the same time are bright, bold and daring. We have challenged the stereotypes of hotel design to create something new, something unique, something that will excite all that experience the journey through it.
